The Road North

Five years after her elder son died in a training accident, Dina Shavit has built her life around a superstition: as long as she keeps moving toward her surviving son, nothing can reach him. So when a mortar exchange is reported near his border post on the morning of the Passover seder, she abandons the drive south to her sister's kibbutz and turns her car north instead. Her ex-husband, her sister, and her son's girlfriend follow. What they find on those roads is not a soldier in danger, but a mother running out of road.
