Nate Buckley has been invisibly employed at two full-time remote jobs for three years—until the day his company mandates cameras-on for every meeting. Rather than come clean, Nate builds an AI avatar to sit in for him: a photorealistic, confident, charming version of himself that quickly impresses everyone from clients to his boss. But when the avatar starts improvising, earning promotions, and scheduling its own meetings, Nate discovers that the fake version of himself might be more real than he is—and far harder to shut down.
