Black Sunday

Twelve-year-old Opal Crockett watches her Oklahoma panhandle world disappear—neighbors fleeing west, fields swallowed by dust, her mother's lungs filling with grit. When a traveling folklorist leaves behind a disc-cutting recorder, Opal begins capturing the voices of everyone around her: fiddle tunes, lullabies, prayers, work songs. But the dust keeps coming, the bank keeps circling, and the greatest storm in Plains history is bearing down. Some things can't be saved. Opal is determined to prove that memory isn't one of them.
