The Tongue of Embers

Davan Kerth blows glass over a volcanic vent in the hill-city of Kindlemarch, and one late night at the furnace he speaks a word no one taught him — and the fire answers. That single word marks him for the Collegium of Tongues, which hangs speakers of the old elemental languages. It also marks him as the only living heir to a broken promise: far beneath the city, something vast and lonely is waking, and it has waited two generations to be heard.
