The Last Barge

One hundred and forty workers on a frozen Alaskan island just lost their food, their fuel, and their way home. Ray Bost, a two-time ex-con who came to Shishmar because nobody asks questions, recognizes the signs of a system collapsing before anyone else does. While the plant manager promises rescue that will never arrive, Ray builds a shadow economy of favors, debts, and calories—feeding people and owning them in equal measure.
