Say It Until It's True

Nine days are missing from Nita Hobbs's life. She wakes barefoot on a cellar floor outside a dead gypsum town in Nevada, needle bruises in both arms, while a patient woman's voice through a wall grille asks her name — and punishes the wrong answer with darkness, thirst, and a metronome that will not stop. Upstairs, a mother is assembling a daughter who drowned eighteen years ago. Nita's own sister already answers to the name. To save her, Nita will have to become it.
