Mire’s Lullaby

Something beneath the bog has been singing since before the village had a name. Mara, newly arrived to claim her dead grandmother's home in a waterlogged valley, hears it every night—a melody that seeps through the floorboards and settles behind her teeth. The locals know what the sound means. They know what it wants. And with an ancient rite days away, they expect Mara to give it willingly. She has other plans, but the mire is patient.
