Hearthstone

A house spirit with no house to haunt is a spirit already dying. Halyna Borova has spent three invisible years guarding a Ukrainian immigrant family in Buenos Aires—until the day they sell the cabinet that anchors her soul. Desperate to survive, she shapes a fragile human body from hearthstone dust and stumbles into the workshop of Santiago Recalde, a carpenter harboring his own secret: he is a Guaraní forest spirit, rootless and grieving. Together they must learn to pass as human, outrun a spiritualist who hunts their kind, and discover whether two displaced spirits can build something neither mythology ever promised them.
