Hattie Sparrow and the Nightbell (Ages 8–12)

Bellhaven oils its door hinges so they cannot creak, and every autumn each family gives one sound up the mountain to feed the Hush. Eleven-year-old Hattie Sparrow, apprentice to the Sound-Keeper, can hear the grain of sound sleeping inside things — a shout still held in a doorframe, a cough humming in a kettle. So when the lullaby she surrendered turns up behind the Warden's shutters, Hattie starts listening at walls. What she finds is a stolen voice, a shivering cloud-calf, and a cracked bell nobody has dared to ring in a hundred years.
