The Midwinter Post

Dora Quince has spent all eleven of her years aboard the Nightingale, a paddle-boat post office and lending library that carries letters, parcels, and forty-one borrowed books to nine villages along the river Winnow. Then the river freezes overnight, an inspector with a green lantern comes aboard to empty the Dead Letter Locker, and the undelivered letters begin to whisper. To finish the Midwinter run, Dora must cross the ice — and answer voices that sound exactly like her missing mother.
