The Woman in 4C

Every morning on the number 34 bus, divorced insomniac Philippa Watkins medicates her loneliness by cataloging the lives of strangers—especially the glamorous couple who board at Greenway. Then the wife stops appearing, and a half-remembered image surfaces through Philippa's pharmaceutical haze: a bruise, a loaded car trunk, a face tight with fear. No one believes her. Not the detective, not her vindictive ex-husband, and certainly not the enigmatic woman she catches meeting the missing woman's husband in a parking garage. But someone believes her enough to slide a warning under her door.
