The Reserve

Eleven days after a tram mechanic hires Anna Leitner to find his mother, he is crushed beneath a car he serviced himself. Vienna, 1979: Anna has spent her working life reuniting families broken by the war, out of two cramped rooms above a bicycle shop. The stamp on the dead man's foster papers leads her to a lakeside maternity home, a celebrated Italian clinic, and a list of names being quietly erased — one of which is her own.
