Murder at Dunleith

A celebrated portrait painter writes to a retired Scotland Yard man with a strange plea: someone has been slashing the painted eyes of every picture in his private gallery, and he believes he will be dead before spring. Nigel Spenlow arrives at Dunleith House to find a household of grudges, debts and old betrayals. Then a shot rings out from a gallery locked, bolted and latched from within — and only Spenlow refuses to call it suicide.
